The Money-Saving Do's And Don'ts Of Black Friday

By Paul Martinez

Regarded by many as the biggest shopping day of the year, it's no surprise that people will be lined up for Black Friday deals. Some shoppers are focused on technology, while others want to get their hands on the latest toys. Whatever the case may be, it's important to understand how to save money. If you're on a tight budget this holiday season, here are some of the biggest financial do's and don'ts that will help you during this time.

DO plan out your Black Friday trips. If you're going to take advantage of this shopping day, make sure that you're aware of all the deals that retailers have to offer. You should be able to map out the places you're going to shop so that you save as much money as possible. Of course, you'll want to be careful when driving, especially as we move closer to the holidays. Companies such as Bobby Jain Credit Suisse will tell you to do the same.

DON'T focus so much on shopping at physical stores. Black Friday expands beyond brick-and-mortar outlets, as ecommerce has become a major player in recent years. Retailers have taken notice of this and, as a result, continually put forth deals for shoppers to take advantage of. This is true on Black Friday as well, so you can save money even if you don't feel like going out to shop. This is another great way to save money, according to Bobby Jain CS.

DO bring examples of better deals. Let's say that you want to primarily shop at one retailer, without missing out on deals from others. Most stores want your business, which means that you shouldn't be shy about haggling. The best way to do this is by bringing flyers or circulars from competing stores. More often than not, prices will be adjusted in order to match them. This is a great way to save money, but you must have said flyers and circulars with you during checkout.

DON'T forget about other popular shopping days. Let's say that you were unable to take part in Black Friday; this doesn't necessarily mean that you're out of luck. There are other shopping days that have great deals to take advantage of. Look at Cyber Monday, for example, which is quite popular for those on the ecommerce front. Even if you aren't able to stay active on Black Friday, there's a chance that good opportunities won't be far.
