Insurance Adjuster And What They Are Paid To Do

By Shawn Hunter

The business of insurance can be tricky and the processes overdrawn especially when you seek a claim after occurrence of a loss. This is a universal practice and even back here in our lovely township Shelby. But worry not as there are professionals that are versed with knowledge on handling cover claims. Such a professional is known as Insurance Adjuster. These are individuals trained to deal with and get the best possible amounts from insurers on behalf of the claimant.

There are different types of adjustors according to the different specialized insurance field present. There will be adjustors for medical, Auto, bodily injury, property etc. An adjuster must be well informed and knowledgeable on his chosen field of cover he decides to specialize in. For instance, learning the driving rules and the different components of a vehicle is absolutely crucial for an auto adjuster. After an accident, such knowledge will be invaluable in determining where fault lies and whether compensation should be paid and how much should be paid.

Their core functions revolve around claims. As such, should they be contracted, they will get involved in each aspect and process in the claims making process. In more detail, when approached by a new client to help out in getting compensation this is what they do.

Firstly is to investigate on the different aspects of the accident. The intention being to find out the cause and whether it was insurable. In the process, an adjustor can do things like visiting the site of the accident, take photos, ask questions to witnesses etc.

After determining that you should indeed be compensated, they will proceed to negotiate with your insurance company. Adjustors will always have your best interest at heart as their client and you can be assured of them working to get you the best possible deal. As their pay will come from commissions from this compensation, motivation is never lacking to do this.

To make a good cover adjuster, a few of the qualities and values you must portray include, empathy, competence and creativity. These help out a lot in negotiations as you are able to explain the details of a contract to clients while at the same time relate to them for their loss. An expert with the necessary training and qualifications will have these. An experience one will be super at his job.

And they can work for the other team as well. This when employed by the insurance company. After occurrence of a loss, these adjustors will carry out the same activities done on making a claim only this time they will have the insurers best interests at heart. A public adjustor evens this out by representing your best interests and ensuring they are heard during negotiations. This so as to get you a fair compensation and in the least time.

With this better understanding of the full scope of an adjustors duties and that they can actually work and fight for us. We need not view them as evil, or without a moral compass as we have before. When working for us, they can do us a world of good.
