A Closer Look On Sports Oppression And Its Impact On Women

By Toni Vang

When we talk about something that is universal and popular, sports will undeniably be among the top on the list. Different countries from different continents have special fascination to this industry. Its growth over the years has been very notable that more people who have passion for sports are now encouraged to step up and bring their passion to a whole new different level.

But all the fun and inspiring stories we hear about this arena is not the only issue present on this popular activity. It also has some dark sides about it. Sports oppression is one of the hottest issue even until now. May it be a group, a minority or a specific game that is the subject of this oppression, its impact is quite notable.

Among the recipients of this are the women. While we all can agree how ladies have established a strong position in the sport arena, it remains a fact that males excel more. The constant comparison between genders is on of the reasons why there are hot debates on the real status of women when it comes to playing games.

But while there are strong critics against women who join men games, we see a lot of successful ones. It is undeniable that we have a bunch of awesome gals out there who reshaped the outlook of some people when it comes to games that are originally created for the guys. Now, the popularity of females in different events are growing.

Female acceptance is growing, but for countries who are very vocal in expressing and showing their bias towards men, the impact that it can give to the women players can be tremendous. For one, it can affect the self esteem of the person. If she is still new in the industry and is still building her skills and reputation, she may fall victim to social criticism.

Watching women play is exciting. In fact, we tend to forget this social issue when we see them excelling at a specific sport. It is important to understand though that they are those entities who managed to exercise utmost focus on their goal and turn a blind eye on the negative comments thrown at them. If those words are not helping them to build up their character and skills, they throw it off.

One key player in the proliferation of many social issue is the media. If we take a closer look, we will notice that a big chunk of sports reports covered by different platforms are focused on those games dominated by men. This eventually impacts the opinion of the public about something.

Different people have different opinion about something. And its inappropriate to judge someone if we are not even aware of the reason behind his stand. Same can be said for sports critics. They have their own perception, something which cannot be easily changed by a single argument.

If you are someone who is passionate about sports and wants to have a career in this industry, you better be ready for the challenges. Its not just all about getting yourself better at the game you love. Its also a constant battle of staying focus while all the critics are there, watching you closely, for every move that may affect your performance as a professional player.
